Title
English: Lake Bennett, British Columbia, 1897.
Description
English: Caption on image: "Lake Bennett. c1897" "Lake Bennett. This lake is nearly twenty-five and a half miles long and about half a mile wide for the first twelve miles, but for the reamaining distance it varies from one to three miles in width. When this photograph was taken the lake was very placid, but it has the character of being dangerous in consequence of the high winds from the north, which frequently prevail, making the water very uninviting to small boats and preventing them from crossing. This often times causes a very disagreeable and vexatious delay. By the time the traveler has reached the spot his enthusiasm has probably risen to a pretty high pitch as the remainder of the journey to Dawson City is by water, and it irritates him to encounter unexpected delays." (Frank La Roche, En Route to the Klondike, 1898) Klondike Gold Rush.
