Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Vishnu and Lakshmi, two Gods in One. Left: Lakshmi-Narayana, Nepal, 14th-15th century, Bronze, gilt, gems/semi precious stones, Object 390. Right: Lakshmi-Narayana, Nepal, 18th century, Bronze, Object 404. Unique to Nepal is a composite image half-Vishnu, half-Lakshmi. Each side—the right Vishnu's, the left Lakshmi's—is differentiated by sex, masculine and feminine hair styles, clothing, and ornaments. Each half-deity holds its prescribed attributes and, when vehicles are present, each stands on its own, Garuda for Vishnu, the tortoise for Lakshmi.
