Landhuis Het Bouwhuis was tot 1970 eigendom van de textielfabrikant J. Fr. Scholten. Het landhuis werd gebuwd in de periode 1923-1926 en het ontwerp is van architect J.W. Hanrath uit Hilversum en is gelegen aan de Welanweg 100 in Enschede. Het landhuis is in een sobere stijl opgetrokken en is een gemeentelijk monument. Door de recessie in de textiel in de jaren 60 waren de eigenaren van de verschillende landgoederen rond Enschede bereid tot verkoop. Ook Het Bouwhuis werd in 1970 verkocht aan de stichting Philadelphia Overijssel een leefgemeenschap voor verstandelijk gehandicapten.
