Summary
[edit]DescriptionLandslip chasms, Ben Donich - geograph.org.uk - 11269.jpg |
English: Landslip chasms, Ben Donich. On the Glen Croe slopes of Ben Donich, the rock has slipped leaving deep narrow cracks in the hillside. These landslips are believed to have occurred late in the ice age, rock layers sliding, lubricated by meltwater. Sometimes whole slopes have failed, as in the case of the Cobbler, here the rock has only moved a short distance.
Once some of these cracks and caves were used by climbers as shelter. In 2006 there was a fatal accident involving one of these cracks near Arrochar. |
