Notes | Firmado ángulo inferior izquierdo : "Copia de Ulpiano Checa". En el reverso, con grafito, "Copia". Los alumnos de la Escuela de Bellas Artes de San Fernando estaban obligados a realizar copias de las obras de artistas consagrados. Esta obra de juventud de Checa perteneció a Don Pedro Pérez Lemaur, Diputado a Cortes en Madrid, que debió conocer a Don Luis Ballester, protector de Ulpiano Checa. La oscuridad de este lienzo no debe imputarse al joven pintor, puesto que cuando realizó la copia, la obra original de Velázquez nunca había sido limpiada, por lo que Checa se limitó a plasmar las condiciones en que se encontraba | |||||||||||||||||||||||
