English: Laura Lesmana Wijaya, born in Jakarta in 1990 to deaf parents with an older deaf sister. She gained her diploma at the Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) where she attended the Asia-Pacific Sign Linguistics (APSL) Research and Training Program that aims to promote sign linguistics and deaf studies. She continued studying in Linguistics for 3 years to get the Bachelor and Master degrees in Sign Linguistics in CUHK and now working as a researcher in Sign Language Research Laboratory under the Faculty of Humanities in University of Indonesia (LRBI, FIB UI). This is her fifth year at Sign Language Centre in Indonesia (Pusbisindo) training deaf teachers and establishing sign language classes in 12 of 34 provinces. She knows at least 6 languages which leads her to be a deaf interpreter and a head division of Sign Language Interpreter Development in the Centre for Sign Language Interpreting Service (PLJ) under the Indonesian Association for the Welfare of the Deaf (IAWD – Gerkatin).
