Description
English: Illustration for ''En ballon de Paris en Norvége – Voyage de M. Rolier, aéronaute du ballon « la Ville d´Orléans » published in Le Monde illustré 1872-1873, a serial about the 'Ville de´Orleans' balloon flight, one of the 66 balloons that escaped the Siege of Paris during the Franco-Prussian War 1870–71. Piloted by Paul Rolier (1844–1929) and Leon Bezier (1840–97), the balloon departed on 24 November 1870. It was blown off course and eventually landed in Norway nearly 15 hours later, after a record-breaking journey of more than 1200 kilometres. The wood engravings show scenes from the balloonists' journey from Paris, over the North Sea and finally through a snowy Norwegian countryside towards Christiania (Oslo).

Artikkelserien forteller i detalj om «la Ville d´Orléans», postballongen som ble sendt ut av et beleira Paris under den fransk-tyske krigen 1870–71. Gassballogen dreiv ut av kurs, over Nordsjøen og havna i Norge, der ballongfarerne, ingeniøren Paul Rolier (1844–1929) og franktirøren Leon Bézier (1840–1897), landa medtatte, men uskadde i snøen ved Lifjell i Seljord nesten 15 timer etter og over 1200 km unna oppstigninga. Den dramatiske og rekordlange luftferden fikk stor oppmerksomhet i samtida.
