Description

Vue générale de la tour - minaret Qutb Minar

Le Qutb Minar est un minaret de 73 m de haut entouré d'un ensemble de bâtiments dont la construction a débuté en 1199 (?) au début de l'occupation musulmane de l'Inde avec Qûtb ud-Dîn Aibak, le premier sultan de Delhi.

Ce minaret dans le style afghan a été édifié en plusieurs étapes, il est qualifié par certains de tour commémorant la victoire des musulmans sur les hindous. Construite en grès rouge, et en marbre blanc, elle est ornée de magnifiques motifs décoratifs et de vers calligraphiés du Coran.

Le complexe de Qutb Minar a été restauré, il comprend une mosquée, des tombes, les ruines d'une autre tour jamais terminée, des portiques, etc. dont de nombreux éléments décoratifs (en particulier des colonnes) proviennent de temples hindous et jains détruits par les musulmans.
