Deutsch: Der französische Brigadegeneral Gabriel Molitor als Sieger über die russische Vorhut unter Generalmajor Pjotr Bagration bei Näfels (Kanton Linth, Helvetische Republik), 1. Oktober 1799 (Detail). Aus dem Nachlass des späteren Maréchal de France.
Eben erst zum General ernannt, hatte der 29-jährige Molitor Ende September hintereinander drei österreichische Heerführer zurückgeworfen (Generalmajor Franz Jelačić über den Kerenzerberg, Feldmarschallleutnant Friedrich Linken über den Segnes- und den Panixerpass, Generalmajor Franz Auffenberg im Klöntal). An diesem Tag lieferte er den Russen ein Rückzugsgefecht vom Klöntalersee bis nach Näfels und Mollis, wo ihm schliesslich Brigadegeneral Honoré Gazan zu Hilfe eilte. Mit dem Sieg über Bagration verlegte Molitor Feldmarschall Alexander Suworow den Rückweg über den Kerenzerberg und zwang ihn so zum verlustreichen Marsch über den 2407 m hohen Panixerpass. Nach der Niederlage Generalleutnant Akexander Korsakows bei Zürich und Feldmarschallleutnant Friedrich Hotzes bei Schänis (25./26. September) wurde der österreichisch-russische Feldzug gegen die Helvetische Republik damit endgültig zum Fiasko. |
