Le panorama de tout-Paris vu des Invalides. La grande passerelle.
Description
The print at the top of this page represents a famous panorama that was created specifically for the fair. Inside, there was a circular panel representing the Place de l'Opéra. It was meant to give the visitors the sense of being in the center of the plaza. The "Panorama de tout-Paris" represented Parisian types in their everyday life activities, as well as famous figures such as the Emperor of Brazil or the Chah of Persia. The second print represents the bridge leading to the Agriculture section of the Fair, which was next to the Panorama de tout-Paris. The bridge was going over the Avenue de la Motte-Picquet, and was located between the Champ de Mars (where the Eiffel Tower and the main galleries were) and the second part of the exhibit, on the Esplanade des Invalides. It was built by Moisant, Laurent, and Savey, who managed three firms specialized in steel construction. They merged into one company a little before the 1889 fair. They would later build the Grand Palais and the Orsay train station (known today as the Musée d'Orsay).
