Summary[edit]

Description
English: A mixture of acetic acid, lead(II) acetate and sodium silicate solutions was poured into a large test tube, and left to rest until a gel was formed. After that potassium iodide solution was poured onto the surface of the gel. Yellow lead(II) iodide precipitate formed immediately on the gel's surface. After a day yellow crystals appeared in the gel. Slowly, the iodide ions migrated into the gel and reacted with the lead(II) ions trapped in the gel thus forming small spectacular lead(II) iodide crystals. The formation of the bright yellow crystals lasts for days. It is clearly visible that the spatial arrangement of the crystals initially very tight, but eventually loosens as iodide ions has to diffuse into the deepest reaches of the gel. Two crystal forms are prevalent: fern-like shapes and hexagonal platelets.
A keveréket pihentettem, amíg gél keletkezett belőlük. Ezután kálium-jodid-oldatot öntöttem a gél felszínére. Azonnal sárga ólom(II)-jodid csapadék keletkezett a gél felszínén. A ragyogó sárga kristályok keletkezése napokig tart.
