Summary
[edit]DescriptionLeaving Kennacraig - geograph.org.uk - 706088.jpg |
English: Leaving Kennacraig The new terminal was created by building a causeway to the island of Ceann na Creig to accommodate the new generation of large ferries. In the 1960s, the ferry MV "Lochiel" struck a reef in the West Loch and sank. Apparently the Argyll & Sutherland Highlander Territorials, who were on board, pushed the travelling sheep overboard knowing that they'd swim to safety. The men then retired to drink the bar dry! The vessel was re-floated and, for many years, was used as a restaurant in Bristol Harbour. (Source: Kennacraig Information Board) |
