Ce site gallo-romain daté des Ier - IIIème siècles apres J.-C., s'étend sur plus d'une centaine d'hectares entre les communes de Vendeuvre-du-Poitou et de Chéneché. Découvert une première fois au XIXème siècle, il a réellement fait l'objet de plusieurs campagnes de fouilles et de sauvetages à l'arrivée du Colonel Charles Potut au début des années 60. La sécheresse de 1976 a permis d'établir et de reproduire la majeure partie du plan grâce à la photographie aérienne. Il s'agissait d'une grande agglomération secondaire composée d'un quartier résidentiel, d'un quartier artisanal, d'un sanctuaire, d'un théâtre et d'une esplanade longtemps appelée forum. Réaménagé depuis 2009, vous pouvez admirer aujourd'hui les vestiges du sanctuaire ainsi que les restes du mur sud de l'esplanade. Lors des découvertes, fortuites ou dues aux fouilles, sont apparues de belles sculptures, comme "l'Amour", ainsi que les nombreuses poteries et autres marbres provenant des pays les plus somptueux de l'antiquité. |
