Description Lest We Forget, World War I Memorial, 255 Main Street, Marlborough, Massachusetts, USA. John G. Hardy, sculptor; dedicated 1923. This sculpture is in the public domain in the United States because copyright has not been asserted from 1923 until now. According to the Smithsonian Institution SIRIS system: "Description: A figure of a World War I soldier with his head bowed and a cross used to mark soldiers graves in his proper right hand. At his feet are a helmet and barbed wire. The sculpture stands atop a stone base that is adorned with bronze inscription plaques featuring allegorical figures of Peace. Inscription: John Hardy (Around bronze base of sculpture:) WORLD WAR/LEST WE FORGET/1914-1919 (On bronze plaque on front of base:) (list of names)/"TO YOU FROM FAILING HANDS WE THROW/THE TORCH . BE YOURS TO BEAR IT HIGH."/MARLBOROUGH HONORS HER HERO DEAD/1923 signed."
