Description
English: Schema depicting the floral structure of Asteraceae using Leucanthemum vulgare agg.

a – disc floret; b – ray floret

1 – style with stigmas 2 – anthers fused to form a tube 3 – corolla (petals), in the case of the ray floret three petals are joined to form a strap (in other species, e.g. 5 petals can form a ligule) 4 – reduced calyx; 4’ – in many other species (like Carduus acanthoides shown here), it forms a pappus 5 – inferior ovary fused of two carpels containing one abaxial ovule (basal placentation)

The floral diagrams are in the style of Ronse De Craene (2010), colored.
