Description
Deutsch: 4: Tannhäuser in Paris. Tumult in den Strassen (1861).
Ueber Zürich kam Wagner wieder nach Paris, wo ein wichtiges Ereignis in seinem vielbewegten Leben die Aufführung des Tannhäuser 1861 bildet. Die Aufführung, auf die er die grössten Hoffnungen gesetzt hatte, gestaltete sich durch ganz abseits des Musikgebietes liegende feindliche Kundgebungen zu einer vernichtenden Niederlage für ihn. Wie ein Verfehmter musste er die Oper verlassen. Nach vielem Umherirren in manchmal grösster Not trifft ihn 1864 die Freudenbotschaft des jungen Königs von Bayern, Ludwig II., der ihm Freundschaft und Schutz anbietet und ihm die Wege ebnet.
