Description

George Wooll was son of Robert and Jane Wooll (nee Potter) in Beswick, Lockington, East Yorkshire. He joined the Northumberland Fusiliers about 1892 and served for 21 years. Whilst in Bengal, India George married Grace Emily Newton on 6 November 1907 He retired from military service and returned home about 1913, but rejoined the Northumberland Fusiliers on 19 August 1914. He had the distinction of being promoted from Private to Warrant Officer in one day. He was killed exactly a year later and is buried at Helles Memorial, Gallipoli Peninsula, Turkey.
