Description
English: Lighthouse Dock "Sports Fishing" Baker's Haulover, Miami Beach, Florida from the personal photo collection of James E. Shaw, who is on the far left facing the camera, and the (now faded) handwriting is his. He was an aerial photographer in the United States Army Air Forces (USAAF) during World War II and was stationed in Miami Beach when this photo was taken. Baker's Haulover is on an 1823 map and has an interesting history, including the man-made Haulover Cut completed in April 1925, changing Miami Beach from a peninsula to an island. Baker's Haulover was a sportsman's paradise at the time and was an attraction to many members of the United States Armed Forces in the Miami area.
