Summary[edit]
| Description |
English: Lime kiln hearth A fire lit in this well-preserved hearth would ignite the dry bracken and kindling placed at the bottom of the kiln which in turn would incinerate the alternate layers of limestone and coal above. The burnt lime would fall through to the base of the kiln from whence it would be carted off to spread on the acidic Pembrokeshire soil.
It is one of three limekilns in Newport. For another see 307326. |
