Description Stone statue of a lion, one of a pair flanking the Sovereign's Entrance at the base of the Victoria Tower, Palace of Westminster, London. The brass standard held by the lion is pierced with the letters VR, which stand for Victoria Regina, Latin for "Queen Victoria". Victoria was the reigning monarch at the time of the Palace's construction and her monogram is a common decorative element throughout the building.
