Summary[edit]
DescriptionLismore Crozier, c. 1100.jpg |
English: The Lismore crozier is dated to 1100 AD and was rediscovered, along with the 15th century Book of Lismore, in a blocked doorway in Lismore castle in 1814. It is 115cm highand built from wood, silver, gold, niello and glass. It is almost fully intact and in good condition with little modern reworking. Its crest contains a procession of animals that continues to a head at the end of the crook. The crook has three small, probably secondary (i.e. added later) reliquaries located in the animal heads and in the drop. The crook is further decorated in both sides with blue glass studs set in set in gold collars, and holding white and red millefiori glass insets. |
