| Description |
English: Llanmaes Brook flood capture pond Major works were carried out to the main drainage system here in the late 1990's in connection with a new housing estate, Frampton Court. The land was to be restored to a 'natural' state as a public amenity. The area is encircled by the slowly flowing Llanmaes Brook that barely manages to flood it in winter. Water drains from surrounding fields and roads by means of streams into a water capture area where it can be controlled to prevent flooding further down the brook. Flooding has regularly occurred to the southeast at Boverton and Ham Manor in recent years where the volume of water increases because of the joining of other brooks that ultimately lead down to the sea. A questionable piece of wetland but will hopefully serve its purpose of flood prevention. Seen here in high summer with a sluice gate in partial view. |
