Summary[edit]
DescriptionLoeffelbrunnen-Quelltopf Karstquelle Langenau Schwaebische-Alb.jpg |
English: karst spring “Löffelbrunnen“ in the center of Langenau, Swabian Alb (for the karst spring of river Nau in Langenau see the photo: Image:Nau_Karstquelltopf_Langenau_Schwaebische Alb.jpg). The area next after Ulm/Langenau is a permanent wetland of ca. 7,5x15 km, devided by the border Baden-Württemberg and Bavaria. In this area the meltwater of the pleistocene river Upper Danube transported gravel, over time forming gravel beds of enormous size, functioning as a groundwater reservoir, which kept the surface a wetland.
This kind of “full water tub” contains the karst waters of the southeastern Swabian Alb, mainly from river Lone and its dry valley-tributaries. This river network meanwhile percolates ca. 80% of its precipitation underground to the wetland area of the Danube. |
