English: Ambo plate with portrayal of Daniel in the lions' den

The image area of the plate shows a frontal view of a man with a head covering and raised hands. He is wearing a kneelength garment with decorative edging, a simple belt, and a cloak held together over his chest with a large disk fibula. Two lions cower on the man's sides. The scene has been interpreted as a depiction of Daniel in the lions' den.

  • Photographed while on display from 22 August 2008 to 11 January 2009 in the exhibition "Die Langobarden. Das Ende der Völkerwanderung" at the Rheinisches LandesMuseum Bonn. On loan from the Museo della Canonica del Duomo, Novara.

Das Bildfeld der Platte zeigt einen Mann mit Kopfbedeckung und erhobenen Händen in Frontalansicht. Er trägt ein knielanges Gewand mit Zierborten, einen einfachen Gürtel und einen Mantel, der über der Brust mit einer großen Scheibenfibel zusammen gehalten wird. Zu beiden Seiten des Mannes kauern zwei Löwen. Die Szene wird als Darstellung von Daniel in der Löwengrube gedeutet.

Das Motif erfreute sich auch unter der langobardischen Herrschaft in Italien großer Beliebtheit.
