| Description |
English: Was this not borough of Stoke Newington until 1965, yet postcodes were introduced in c 1916. ??? No, (see comments below) but the East Side of Bethune Road DID transfer from Stoke Newington to Hackney. THIS IS THE ONLY BOROUGH OF HACKNEY sign from the pre-WW1 period which includes "Borough of Hackney" as far as I can tell...perhaps because it was so close to Stoke Newington?
Until quite recently, Craven Walk , N16 carried both NE and N signs. Both of these have been trashed by the vandals and historical philistines of Hackney Council in the last 2 or so years. |
