Summary[edit]

Long Meadow, Looking south from Endale Arch, Prospect Park, Brooklyn, NY, April 15, 2006, about 6:15 AM EST. Taken one day short of a year later and from the same camera location as Long Meadow, Looking south from Endale Arch (April 16, 2005). The photographer's dog, Olmsted, waits patently on the walk. In contrast to the earlier panorama, the day was cool and misty.

The Long Meadow constitutes one of three major divisions of Prospect Park; it is an open lawn that plays a foil to the hilly, wooded Ravine and the 60 acre lake, both which constitute the other two divisions of the Park. The Long Meadow runs roughly south for a nearly a mile, then bends to the southwest and runs for another mile. It is difficult to find a prospect that commands the entire meadow. The best location is about mid-way down the lawn, at the bend, on the flank of Sullivan Hill. The entire lawn can only be seen in the winter or early spring from this location.
