English: LTJG John Warren Ramsey, 1942; Original VF-11 Sundowner Squadron, San Diego, CA. Served thru WWII, Korea, and early 1960s before retiring as Commander.

Lt Ramsey went on to serve two tours at Guadalcanal and many other battles with VF-11 thru WWII shooting down a total of 4 Japanese Zeros and destroying two ships (sea plane tender and a destroyer). Over the WWII and Korean wars Ramsey was awarded four (4) Distinguished Flying Crosses, eleven (11) air medals, numerous citations, commendations, and many other medals including a Bronze Star in Korea for taking out an anti-aircraft locomotive train set and bridge in the same mission. Furthermore, Commander Ramsey went on to serve in Korea as VF-111 Squadron Commander in late 1951 and most of 1952.

Later in his Navy career, Commander Ramsey attended and graduated at the Naval War College advancing his education from his degree earned in 1941. The additional education prepared him for assignments at NATO 7th Fleet (at Naples Italy), offices for planning of fleet exercises. Commander Ramsey then trained in deployment of nuclear weapons for instruction to carrier groups. In 1958 Commander Ramsey was assigned to special assignment on board the USS Oriskany in upgrades to the ship and executive officer of Air Operations to train air groups for future combat operations. Later in 1962 Commander Ramsey was assigned to BUWEPS in Washington DC. Ramsey retired from the US Navy in December 1963.
