Les carneaux 1', 2', 3' et 4' sont parallèles à la devanture, circulent sous la fosse à scorie et relient les deux empilements de briques de régénérations, situés à gauche et à droite du four. Les carneaux 1, 2, 3, 4 et 5, situés à un niveau inférieur et perpendiculaires aux 4 premiers communiquent chacun avec un des quatre groupes d'empilages homologues ; ils se réunissent deux par deux aux vannes de distributions. Le canal central (5) est lié à la cheminée. Les briques sont empilées de manière à manager des canaux verticaux faciles à ramoner. L'appareil est assez sophistiqué mais présente les mêmes inconvénients que le four Siemens d'Auby, avec des creusets supérieurs beaucoup plus chauffés que ceux du dessous (puisque la flamme est descendante). Les oscillations de températures, inhérentes au système Siemens, dégradent aussi l'efficacité du four et la tenue des réfractaires. |
