Description
English: Inscribed lid of a Carolingean sarcophagus (9th-10th c) excavated in the cloisters in 1954, now in the lapidarium ("stone collection") in the East Crypt of the Basilica of Saint Servatius in Maastricht, the Netherlands. The Latin inscription reads: Do not remove this stone, because someone else lies beneath / Oh, who readeth this, oh, whose attention is focussed on these words / commemorate this soul / whose body lies in this grave, that I adorn, oh sorrow / because God took away Liutis from her husband V(...).
