Description
Deutsch: Der Schwerlastkran "Elefant" ist ein ortsfester, ursprünglich wasserhydraulisch angetriebener Drehkran mit einem manuellen Drehwerk, das später auf elektrischen Betrieb umgestellt wurde. Wegen seiner besonderen Bauart wurde er "Elefant" genannt. Der 1893 bei Dinglinger in Köthen gebaute Kran hat einen Auslegerradius von 10 m, eine maximale Tragkraft von 21 t und Hubhöhe von 12,4 m. Mit seiner für damalige Verhältnisse enormen Tragkraft bot er die einzige Umschlagmöglichkeit für schwere Güter zwischen Schiff und Eisenbahn und erlangte so große Bedeutung für den Magdeburger Wirtschaftsraum. Der Kran wurde in den 1960er-Jahren demontiert und im Jahre 2002 wieder rekonstruiert.
English: The heavy-duty crane Elefant is a stationary, originally water-hydraulically powered slewing crane with a manual slewing gear, which was later converted to electric operation. Because of its special design he was called "elephant". The crane, built in 1893 near Dinglinger in Köthen, has a boom radius of 10 m, a maximum lifting capacity of 21 tonnes and a lifting height of 12.4 m. With its tremendous load-bearing capacity at that time, it offered the only transshipment option for heavy goods between ship and railroad and thus gained great importance for the Magdeburg economic area. The crane was dismantled in the 1960s and reconstructed in 2002.
