Summary[edit]
DescriptionMagelang Coat of Arms (1930).svg |
English: Coat of arms of Magelang during Dutch colonial period, adopted in 1930, with blazoning found in Nederlands-Indische Gemeentewapens: Geschiedenis, Legenden en Besluiten, by Dirk Rühl Jr. (1933). The silver gaff is a symbol for the three great roads that converge in Magelang, namely the one to Semarang, the one to Yogyakarta and the one to Purworejo. The gold ring represents the city of Magelang, Mahagelang 'great ring'. The center of the ring coincides with the fork split and also forms the center of the shield. The black nail, the tip of which is located in the fork opening and which falls entirely within the ring, symbolizes Mount Tidar as the nail of Java. Finally, where Magelang is at the center of the remains of ancient Hindu times (Borobudur, Mendut, etc.), there is a golden stupa-shaped crown crowned with three dagobs and with langas of black precious stone, placed above the shield.
