Summary
[edit]DescriptionMagnolia × soulangeana Rustica Rubra (3870103853).jpg |
Magnolia x soulangeana - hybrid M. denudata X M. lilliflora The Saucer Magnolia Magnolia x soulangeana was bred about 200 years ago by a Frenchman, and now there are hundreds of cultivars that have resulted from this initial hybrid, with Magnolia x soulangeana ‘Rustica Rubra’ being one of the most popular. It has masses of flowers and ornamental zigzag stems that hold the upright flowers, and will tolerate slightly alkaline soils. The Lily-flowered Magnolia Magnolia liliiflora cv. has brilliant royal purple flowers and can develop the propensity to layer under certain conditions.
