Description
English: 1792 caricature by James Gillray. William Petty, 2nd Earl of Shelburne (now Marquess of Lansdowne) is shown in a carriage rushing to the palace, shouting, "Drive you dog! drive!—now or never!—aha! the Coast is clearing! drive!" To the right Charles James Fox pleas "Stop, stop, take me in, stop!"; Richard Brinsley Sheridan adds "And me too! stop". In the background, Prime Minister William Pitt leaves the palace on an out-of-control coach, driven by his ally Henry Dundas, both distracted by a dove of peace.

When the caricature was drawn, it was expected that Shelburne might be asked to form a government. The title of the cartoon, "Malagrida, Driving Post", refers to Gabriel Malagrida, whom Shelburne was often satirically compared to.
