| Description |
The "Mammoth Oak" or "Confederate Oak", which stood on Piney Branch Rd., NW near Eastern Avenue until it was destroyed in a ca. 1930 road widening project. At the time it was removed it was reported to be 9' around, with a crown over 100' wide. The tree stood on the property of the Hubbard family, who campaigned hard to save it until the land was taken by eminent domain. American Forests magazine, June 1934. |
