Description |
English: By the time this photo was produced by the Seattle firm of Warner and Randolph sometime around 1890, many of western Washington's immense Western Redcedar trees had been cut for timber. Some of the huge stumps became public attractions; others were simply venues for an unusual photograph. Whether this photograph shows a man named Sidney or was taken in Sidney, Washington (now Port Orchard) remains a mystery. In either case, the stump, 11 metres (36 feet) in circumference, provides a dramatic perch. Original title: Western Redcedar stump Sidney 11 metres (36 feet) in circumference.
Another version of the same photo identifies it as "Brooks Randolph standing on cedar tree stump, Sidney (now Port Orchard), circa 1896." |
