Description
English: Marble torso and head of Asclepius in the type Este. From the Acslepeion of Piraeus. 2nd century B.C. Hellenistic variation of the original cult statue attributed to the sculptor Skopas (first half of the 4th cent. B.C.). The nude body is marked by an antithetical movement and a detailed but soft rendering of the musculature. The turning of the head, the big inlaid eyes, the rough curls of the hair and the beard, the half open mouth express restrained passion. Inventory number: EAM/NAM Γ 258.
