| Description |
English: March station, with a Stanier 'Black 5' - unusual in 1958 - on eastbound parcels train. View westward, towards Peterborough, also Whitemoor Yard, Spalding and the North: ex-GE major junction. Stanier 5MT 4-6-0 No. 44932 was a very curious observation here: it had earlier (see TL4297 : Clacton-on-Sea - Birmingham New Street express entering March) gone west on the Summer Saturday 11.10 Clacton-on-Sea to Birmingham New Street and here was returning (presumably from Peterborough East) on a Parcles. Moreover. It was shedded at Agecroft (Manchester) and was in ex-Works condition - but where? It was built 10/45 and withdrawn 8/68 - one of the very last main-line steam locomotives of BR. It was preserved and is now owned by West Coast Railways, based at Carnforth and still active on Rail Tours. |
