Summary

[edit]
Description
English: Photo taken at the Royal Norwegian Navy Museum (Norwegian: Marinemuseet) in Horten:
  • German Enigma cipher device exhibited behind glass. Enigma was the product name for a series of electromechanical encryption machines extensively used by most German military forces for both encryption and decryption of information during World War II. The coding machine here has four rotors (rotating cylinders), a typewriter-like keyboard, plugs in a contact panel and a wooden box.

Marinemuseet is one of the world's oldest naval museums. The navy museum was founded in 1853 and has been in the old magazine on Karljohansvern since 1864. The "old department" is somewhat retained, but the museum has later grown to more than 2.000 sqm, rich in information and close proximity to the many models and objects.
