Diagram shows horizon drop (Earth's curvature) at distance of 1 Earth radius (3,960 miles)

Summary[edit]

Description
English: This diagram compares calculations of the "horizon drop," or curvature of the Earth, using the Pythagorean Theorem vs. the 8" per mile squared "rule." It shows that the 8" "rule" is off by 21% from the Pythagorean calculation at this distance (3,960 miles), and demonstrates that the 8" rule is inherently inaccurate.
