On November 29, 2012, the New York Transit Museum held a Q&A between City Lore's Steve Zeitlin and Rosalind Cinclini Cantena, who was featured as "Miss Subways" in June, 1965. The Museum’s newest exhibit, "Meet Miss Subways: New York’s Beauty Queens 1941-76" opened on October 23 and will continue through March 25, 2013. The Miss Subways contest ran from 1945 to 1976, showcasing a different young woman every month with a short biographical sketch and portrait. Photographer Fiona Gardner has completed a project in which she tracked down many former Miss Subways and photographed them as they appear today. Photo: MTA New York City Transit / Marc Hermann. |
