Description

Megalomoidea canadensis fossil bivalve internal mold from the Silurian of Ohio, USA.

This is an internal mold of a fossil bivalve, preserved in dolostone. These fossil clams are moderately common in certain intervals of the Silurian dolostone succession of Ohio. Quarrymen have nicknamed these fossils "beefhearts".

Classification: Animalia, Mollusca, Bivalvia, Heterodonta, Hippuritoida, Megalodontidae (this fossil clam was formerly known as Megalomus canadensis)

Stratigraphy: Lockport Dolomite, upper Niagaran Series, (upper Wenlockian), upper Middle Silurian

Locality: National Lime and Stone Quarry, Woodville, northwestern Ohio, USA
