English: A sign in old Malacca (perhaps a company name):
  • In Chinese characters (from right to left): 南發 (literally "southern progress", Nanfa in Pinyin, or Naam4 faat3 in Cantonese).
  • The romanized transcription, Nam Fatt.
  • The cursive Jawi N-m F-t (نم فت) is repeated twice in a row, but in slightly different calligraphic styles: the letter m (ـم) is written with a loop and a terminal flourish on the left; these feature are reduced on the right.
