English: In the Pacific northwest fishing industry, people of different nationalities often specialized in catching certain kinds of fish. In the early days of the 20th century, about 95% of the Americans fishing for halibut in the northern Pacific Ocean were of Norwegian descent.
This photo shows a group of men cleaning halibut on board a halibut steamer in the northern Pacific Ocean. It was probably taken on the "Independent" sometime between 1902 and 1916.
