| Description |
English: Liverpool - Newcastle express east of Mirfield. View westward, towards Mirfield, Sowerby Bridge, Todmorden, Manchester etc.: ex-L&Y Calder Valley main line, the four tracks being shared with the ex-LNW Leeds - Huddersfield - Manchester line. The 10.30 from Liverpool Exchange via Wigan, Manchester Victoria and Todmorden to Newcastle via Wakefield, Normanton and York is headed by Stanier 'Jubilee' 6P 4-6-0 No. 45698 'Mars' (built 4/36, withdrawn 10/65), which will run as far as York, the train being due in Newcastle at 16.15. (The ex-L&Y Mirfield - Low Moor line is not quite visible (!) crossing in front of the factory in the background; see also SE2119 : Eastbound local train on Calder Valley main line between Mirfield and Thornhill). [Elucidation welcomed]. |
