Summary[edit]

Description Two models showing the U.S. Navy Essex-class aircraft carriers USS Boxer (CVA-21), left, and USS Hancock (CVA-19), right, before and after fitting of an angled deck.
The models are incorrect in several ways. Both models are "short hull" Essex-class carriers, but Boxer and Hancock were both "long hull" types. The depicted conversion of Hancock represents more the simple fitting of an angled deck as practiced on USS Antietam (CVA-36), only the gun turrets on deck were removed and the aft elevator was moved to the deck edge. Hancock´s aft elevator was located much further aft as she received the SCB-27C modernization.
