Summary[edit]
DescriptionMother and child - beautiful hand-tinted ambrotype (11105783513).jpg |
I was having a look through my small drawer of cased images and found this one. I've shared her before, but only out of the protector and a rather dull image. I think this one does her much more justice (although on my screen at least the blues are just a bit too bright compared with the original)! I'd hesitate to date this, but am thinking mid-late 1850s, possibly early 1860s? It's 1/6th-plate, and rather than a black lacquered back it has a piece of dark velvet-like fabric, held in by a rough card back. It came to me uncased. I have no idea of origin, and the only provenance that I have is that it was bought on eBay with my ambrotype of Edmund Baron Hartley VC, but I wouldn't even specualte that they are at all related. |
