Description
English:

White paper with handwritten black text

Mr. James B. Myers, Superintendent, Gettysburg Natl. Military Park My dear Mr. Myers, I have waited to write you until I got my new stationery but do not wish to wait any longer. I want your opinion on the design I am enclosing for a monument to the Army and Navy, Confederate States of America. When appointed Chairman General of this Committee last Jan. 1962 I wrote to the Governor and Centennial Commissions of these 14 states involved and found that 7 convene their legislatures every 2 years + would not meet until this Jan. 1963. I obtained the quotas from Georgia, Virginia, Maryland, Mississippi and Louisiana but they all wrote that they objected to a monument to an individual Walter W. Williams that it must be the figure of a private as more symbolic of the Army + Navy of the Confederate Army. I went to the U.D.C. Convention Nov. 10th and had a resolution unanimously passed that it be a private
