Mr. Kittridge A. Wing, Superintendent, Gettysburg National Military Park Gettysburg, Pennsylvania 17325 Re: Proposed Confederate Monument in Gettysburg National Military Park Dear Mr. Kittridge: This letter is to advise you that William M. Beard, 66 Elm Street, Westfield, New Jersey, is the legal advisor of the United Daughters of the Confederacy and he is also Judge Advocate-in-Chief of the Sons of Confederate Veterans. Mr. Beard has been authorized by our respective organizations to conduct all of the negotiations, including legal, necessary to consummate the erection of the proposed Confederate Monument in the Gettysburg National Military Park. This letter will advise you that the plans and designs submitted by Mr. De Lue constitute a proposal approved by our respective organizations and we herewith request authorization to construct such Confederate Memorial on South Confederate Avenue on the location discussed by us when we visited Gettysburg and conferred with you May 13, 1964.
