Dear Mr. Wing: May I thank you and your staff for your help at all times in the planning and carrying out of the dedication of the monument on Wednesday. We were very pleased with the number who came and certainly everyone who worked with us in Gettysburg helped make it a very successful event. We had no way of estimating how many of our members would be able to attend but had hoped that at least 250 would be there. Actually nearly 300 attended the luncheon and others came up for the program in the Park. All seemed very pleased with the monument and certainly it is a very expressive one. My next door neighbors drove up on Thursday and were very much impressed with it. If there were any expenses which we should take care of, will you please send the bill to me. The seating arrangement worked out very well and the buses were most helpful. The program was a bit longer than I had hoped but it was not possible to confine the tributes to the two or three minutes, unfortunately. My husband and I are deeply grateful to you for giving so much of your time to us on the several occasions when we visited the Park in the selection of the site and in trying to work out the other details. Very sincerely, Maynelle S. Smith Mrs. Robert Hamilton Smith 1800 Harris Road Phila. Penna.
