Español: Ónice calcáreo. Compuesto por calcita fibrosa o acicular de grano muy fino. La intensidad del color verde se debe a una mayor o menor presencia de óxido de hierro (FeO). La formación de estos depósitos esta vinculada a la circulación de aguas termales con temperatures menores a 100˚C y altos contenidos de ácidos carbónico, así como calcio, magnesio, hierro y magnaneso. Estas aguas asciended a través de grietas, y depositan el ónix calcáreo en mantos o bancos. Esta pieza se ha formado durante los procesos volcánicos del Terciario que dieron lugar a la formación de cerro Tiporco. Tecnológicamente es conocido como mármol ónix. Cantera Santa Isabel, San Luis, Argentina. |
